HONOR GUARD

VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Honor Guards provide military honors at funerals and memorial services for veterans and their families. These ceremonies include a three-volley rifle salute, the sounding of Taps, and the ceremonial folding and presentation of the American flag.

Military Funeral Honors: VFW posts across the country offer military funeral honors to eligible veterans, which are authorized by the Department of Defense and the Veteran's Administration. 

Ceremonies: The VFW Honor Guard typically conducts a ceremony that includes:
  • A three-volley rifle salute. 
  • The sounding of Taps
  • The ceremonial folding and presenting of the American flag to the family of the deceased. 
 
Significance: These ceremonies are a final demonstration of the nation's gratitude to those who have served in the military. 

Eligibility: Any person who has completed at least one enlistment or other obligated military service and received an honorable discharge is eligible for
Military Funeral Honors. 

How to Obtain VFW Honor Guard Services: Families of deceased veterans can request VFW Honor Guard services by contacting their local VFW post. 

Beyond Funerals: Some VFW Honor Guards also participate in parades, community events, and flag presentations. 

Funding: VFW posts rely on donations to cover expenses associated with uniforms, equipment, and other costs related to providing Honor Guard services.
